The Lewis Latimer Legacy
Illuminating the Future
Lewis Howard Latimer
1848 - 1928
Engineer, Inventor, Pioneer of Innovation
Born in 1848, Latimer was defined by relentless intellectual curiosity and a deep commitment to making technology practical and accessible. He engineered the widespread, commercial success of two foundational inventions: the telephone and the electric light bulb.
Working alongside Alexander Graham Bell, he drafted the patent drawings crucial for the telephone. But his most enduring contribution came in illuminating the world—engineering a superior carbon filament that transformed the light bulb from a fleeting novelty into a durable, commercially viable staple.
Our Commitment
At Latimer, we draw inspiration from his legacy. Innovation isn't just about the initial spark; it's about the detailed, practical work that turns an idea into scalable reality.
We support the next generation of founders who possess Latimer's dual virtues: the vision to invent and the discipline to make it work for the world.
